Call for Abstracts: 5th National Research Conference on Child and Family Programs and Policy

The 5th National Research Conference on Child and Family Programs and Policy welcomes abstracts for both posters and papers for their 5th annual conference, which will take place July 24-26, 2012. The conference will focus on policies, programs, and interventions that affect children and families. The abstracts should be no longer than 275 words, and the research question, purpose of study, methodology, and preliminary results must be included. Abstracts must be submitted by March 5, 2012.

Call for Applications: Collaborate for Healthy Weight- Phase Two

The National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality (NICHQ) is now accepting applications for teams interested in participating in Phase Two of the study. The purpose of the study is to help states and communities develop new multi-disciplinary approaches to prevent and treat obesity for children and families. Of special interest in Phase Two is the role of faith-based communities, the application of community health workers, as well as innovative technology to promote the aims of the project. Teams who are applying should have some content knowledge related to obesity and quality improvement. Applications are due January 27th, 2012.

2012 AERA Faculty Institute for the Teaching of Statistics with Large-Scale Data Sets

The AERA Grants Program announces the 2012 AERA Faculty Institute for the Teaching of Statistics with Large-Scale Data Sets to be held on July 5-8, 2012 at Stanford University. The Faculty Institute's goal is to expand the critical mass of U.S. education researchers using large-scale federal data sets, especially those sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), NSF, and other federal agencies, through preparing faculty to incorporate use of such data in doctoral-level courses. The Institute is for faculty members at U.S. universities who teach basic introductory doctoral-level statistics or methodology courses and who seek to integrate large-scale federal education data sets into these courses.

Call for Studies: Home Visiting Evidence of Effectiveness (HomVEE), Mathematica Policy Research

Mathematica Policy Research is now accepting papers and studies on the topic of home visiting programs. This is part of a comprehensive review on the literature and evidence base on home visiting programs. Submitted studies should focus on home visiting programs that target pregnant mothers, expectant fathers, and families with children birth to five, and the studies should have been published within the last 30 years. The review will be used to inform new policies, initiatives, and program directions at the federal level. The deadline for submissions is January 6, 2012.

Call for Presentations: Research-to-Practice Symposium, 39th Annual Head Start Conference

The National Head Start Association is seeking presentations from researchers and practitioners for the Research-to-Practice Symposium at the 39th Annual Head Start Conference. The Symposium will take place on April 18, 2012, and will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN. Some of the topics sought for presentations include professional development practices, dual language learners, health education practices, social-emotional development, and others. Presentations are sought from both researchers as well as practitioners. Submissions are due December 15, 2011.

The National Poverty Center, Part of the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, welcomes applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship position. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide the opportunity to spend a year or two conducting research and receive extensive training for outstanding American minority scholars. Scholars should have a focus on issues related to poverty and public policy. Interdisciplinary research through course work, faculty interaction, and independent study is also encouraged.
